Artist Bio
Mars Electric – Biography

Mars Electric hail from Birmingham, Alabama. This quartet was formed in 1997 by front man Jacob Bunton under the name Wish. With the addition of drummer Matt Finn, bassist Carl Ray Hopper and guitarist Chris Simmons, it wasn't long before they had major label interest. Columbia Records VP John Kalodner signed them to his label, which was duly followed by the release of the debut album 'Beautiful Something' during 2000.

Mars Electric spent much of that year touring all over the USA, sharing the stage with such acts as Stone Temple Pilots, Mötley Crüe, The Scorpions, and Alice Cooper.

The band received rave reviews for their amazing live shows from critics and fans alike. "I grew up listening to bands that were larger than life and had big stage shows," says Jacob Bunton. "I feel that element has been missing in music for much of the last decade and I want to give people the excitement of a full-fledged arena rock show."

After returning to Alabama from their busy touring schedule, the band began rehearsing songs for their sophomore album. Then they headed to Chicago and recruited producer Joey Donatello (Michael Jackson) to produce album number two: “Fame Among The Vulgar”. The ten tracks span beautiful heartfelt ballads like “Descend” and “Don't Say Goodbye” to in-your-face rock 'n' roll anthems such as “Heaven´s Gate” and what will be the first single from the album “Disco King”!

Singer Jacob Bunton has written a track by track commentary on the album and I'm pleased to bring that to you now. Check out samples of each track as you read along.
BemusedI wrote Bemused about my experiences with the music industry.  With our first album "Beautiful Something" it seemed like the same people that said they believed in us were the first people to turn there backs on us when things got tough.  It's also about former super stars trying to rekindle their fame.  The same radio stations and magazines that made them famous are the first ones to drag them down as soon as the next new trend comes along.
Disco KingThere used to be a club in Birmingham, Alabama called The 5 Points Music Hall.  Every Thursday night was Disco night (Thursday Night Fever).  I used to go to the club just to watch people.  It was so much fun just to stand in the back and just observe.  I wrote the song about a guy who was dressed to the nines and kept hitting on a lesbian.  He wouldn't take no for an answer.  She finally left, so he spent the rest of the night trying to pick up under age girls.  He ended up leaving alone.  He was there every Thursday night.
Queen Of SufferingI wrote this song thinking back to my middle school days.  I met my first girlfriend at a school football game.  I was never in to sports, but I would go to the ball games from time to time out of boredom.  I thought she was the greatest thing in the world.  She was my first love.  The only thing to do on the weekends in Birmingham when I was growing up is hang out with all of your friends in a parking lot.  So every weekend we would go out with one of my friends who was old enough to drive and hang out.  We eventually broke up after about a year, but I never knew why.  This song is about a conversation we had over dinner 10 years later.
DescendDescend was written for a girl that became one of my best friends.  We started out as friends and over time I realized how special she was.  I could never tell her how I felt, so I wrote this song.
Heavens GateHeavens Gate was written about people who judge others because of how they look.  Just because someone looks different or talks different or believes different from you, it doesn't make them a bad person.  That's what's great about life.  If everyone were the same it would make the world boring.
Baby's Got a Brand New LifeThis song was written about Wendy O'Williams.  She was the singer of a band called The Plasmatics back in the 80's.  She committed Suicide in April of 1998.
Did I Say Too MuchThis is just a goofy song I wrote about being rejected  by a girl.  Of course I didn't actually do any of the things in the song, but it was fun to write.
Dancin' In The CloudsThis song was written about a good friend of mine. She was very talented and had a lot to offer, but got mixed up with heroin and threw it all away.  It's a shame how many great musicians and people in general have let drugs ruin there lives.
Don't Say Good-byeEveryone has had that one love that got away.  This song is about trying to keep it from getting away.
I'm Not DreamingThis song is about trying to find your place in life.  Every single one of us has a dream.  Some don't know how to go about getting it and some find out it's not really what they wanted when they get it.  If you believe in yourself you can make anything happen.  If you do nothing expect nothing.
