It's hard to rate a release like this, merely as you really don't have all the information in front of you in order to judge it properly. The EP offers 5 exclusive tracks, which is cool to start with, but tracks 1 and 2 will be featured on the band's upcoming comeback CD. But as I said, it's hard to judge, as both are 'alternate versions', which generally means they are demo's in progress and this is a taster for fans to enjoy while waiting. That said, both tracks sound pretty good to me. The opener is typical of Shy and vocalist Tony Mill's delivery - an up tempo anthem rocker with those unforgettable high pitch vocals. | |||
The song's chorus works for me - it sounds solid and memorable. The second new track is a little softer and a little more restrained. It's more a melodic mid-tempo song with a more contained vocal, which reminds me of Tony Harnell. The production of these 2 new studio tracks is ok, but I am sure will be improved before the final release. Then we get 3 acoustic tracks. These are completely acoustic! Only vocalist Tony and an acoustic guitar. While the songs themselves are enjoyable and crisply recorded, it will be the established fans of Shy that will appreciate this most. A good sample of what's to come.
