Shiva are just another example of why Sweden is considered the hot bed for melodic rock talent in Europe.
This album features strong and dominating female lead vocals, backed with an excellent production and even mix.
While there is no connection at all, the sound of the album reminds me a little of Rainmaker and Tommy Denander's trademark guitar sound.
Mix that with the more commercial strands of Robin Beck at her high-tech best and Shiva's sound isn't far behind.
The good thing about this album is that it rocks! Only track 8 - the excellent ballad One More Day slows proceedings down in any way.
The rest of the album is high-octane, guitar driven hard rock.
However, I consider the opening track Marilyn one of the weaker tracks.
The chunky guitar riffs of Stay Out and Dow Jones Index are far stronger - as is the album as a whole. There aren't any fillers out of the 11 featured tracks.
Dow Jones Index sounds like a close relative to Kiss' Hide Your Heart, with a big chorus hook and some tasteful layered harmonies in play.
The double kick drum tempo of the rocker Free My Soul is another example of why this album rocks and rocks well.
It showcases some fine guitar playing and some strong song writing.

The Bottom Line
|
Fans of female fronted rock albums will be in hog heaven upon hearing this. It's heavier than many other female lead albums, and features that unmistakable Scandinavian hard rock sound.
Solid guitar riffs and good choruses back this strong vocal album.
You won't need to be a fan of female lead vocals to appreciate this quality hard rock record, but it will definitely enhance the long term enjoyment.
