I was never a big fan of Saxon's, but did get into some of their mid-80's records that stated turning fairly commercial. Their cover of Ride Like The Wind was kinda cool (cheesy!).
Little did I know it, but the band were almost a piss-take of their former selves and have since that time done everything possible to return to their heavy metal roots and remain true to their hard core fan base.
So Metalhead continues this and is indeed a heavy 'heavy metal' album!
Tuning my ears to that of a would be Saxon fan, I would have to say this sounds pretty convincing.
I don't think too many Saxon fans would not be into this. It's bloody heavy and very well produced and played. It's like a sonic wall of guitars.
There is nothing remotely commercial on this album, although the last track Sea Of Life has potential for all.
BOTTOM LINE: A classic Saxon album for classic Saxon fans.
