There is about 4 different groups of people doing tribute albums currently and all of them have new ones on the market. Some of the artists even lap over on each release, making it hard to keep track of the number on the market.
I think the time has come to stop this trend. After all, there can't be too many bands left to pay tribute to? How about putting the same energy into making new records and writing new songs?
Anyway, here we go with a new tribute album from Perris Records. This time it's Poison and it's a true Glam fest going on here.
Of all the people qualified to do a Poison tribute, Perris are probably it, as most of the glam crowd are associated with the label.
What's it like? Well glam is always supposed to be a little down and dirty and good rock n roll. Poison were the best of their scene and wrote the best songs, so they naturally rose to the top.
Having their songs reproduced here highlights what great songs they are - then or now.
Featured on this tribute album is vocalists Steve Sommers, Stevie Rachelle, Derek St Holmes, Mike Pierce, Wes Kimball, Rick Ruhl and Steevi Jaimz.
Backing those guys are Keri Kelly, Paul Lidel, Alexx Michaels, John Payne, Tom Mathers, Steve Fister, Troy Flemming & Jeff Caughron.
BOTTOM LINE: I am actually quite impressed with the production quality on this tribute. It's better than several others I have heard and is one of the best quality releases Perris have come up with. I wasn't as impressed with the vocals on Fallen Angel or #1 Bad Boy, but the rest is pretty good.
I would go as far as to recommend it to fans of Poison and glam rock in general. Good fun.
