Some love 'em, some hate 'em, but either way they are here to stay. As far as modern melodic rock and the US, these guys are it. Europe is somewhat of a different story, but as far as the melodic rock in the US, these guys are a big part of the future.
You have to love the attitude of this album. On their debut, the Marvelous 3 re-introduced themselves to the rock world after a name, style and attitude change and caught the imagination of a new generation of modern rock fans.
Their rejuvenated sound was also in line with a new wave of upbeat, good fun guitar driven rock that is catching on in the States.
The world needs another bad boy band and it looks like the Marvelous 3 are happy to take that mantle and run with it.
Just take their new album Ready Sex Go. From the cover to the last minute of the album, these guys have decided to get in everyone's faces and they do that well.
The sound of the debut is here, but intensified as the guys with tongue firmly planted in cheek, turn everything up and take everything one step further.
It only takes 30 seconds of the opening track to see that these guys have added a heavier tone to the album, more in your face sexually charge lyrics and 100% more good hard rocking fun.
Little Head is not only one of the funniest tracks I have heard, it is musically one of the catchiest hard rockers in years and will undoubtedly earn the attention of rock fans not yet converted to their attitude.
It's like the sound of the Goo Goo Dolls mixed with the energy and attitude of Motley Crue in their heyday.
Luckily, the guys have had enough time to go away and write some great new tunes and this album should end up being regarded as even better than their debut. I certainly think it is.
Grant Park is all attitude again with a huge layered chorus, Get Over is tragically funny, Sugarbuzz is sonically heavy as hell, Supernatural Blonde is modern rock at it's best and Radio Tokyo is better than anything Oasis might possibly one day record.
Highlights from the second half of the album include the totally addictive Beautiful, the anthemic This Time and the brilliant hard rocking I Could Change.
A special mention to the track that tributes stadium rock ballads - Cigarette Lighter Love Song. A huge modern power ballad that should get airplay all over the place.
BOTTOM LINE: You have to have taste for the modern rock side of life, with this album fully planted in the late 90's style of American rock. Personally, I can't find a fault with it.
A huge wall of guitars surrounded by mulit-layered harmonies and a million dollar production. Lyrically as funny as hell, but importantly, full of great quality songwriting and musicianship.
More guitars, more in your face songs, more attitude = better all round than the great debut album.
