Review
Lost Weekend are also back with album number three!
New Religion sees the UK melodic rockers pick up where they left off on Presence Of Mind.
Lost Weekend play an unmistakeable brand of British melodic rock that matches the sound of fellow Brits Pulse, The Promise and maybe also the first Ten album.
AOR by numbers yes, but not in a negative way - these are some great songs.
New Religion is the band's best sounding album yet. It betters the first two in sound, production and song quality.
Production comes courtesy of Emerald Rain's Murray Daigle and Mike Dmitrovic in Toronto.
The sound is tighter, more guitar driven and certainly more polished.
This album features less pomp than the last two, with a more straight ahead melodic rock sound in place. Guitars have more prominence and the use of acoustic guitars in a few tracks seems to suit the band.
The sound and vocal delivery coincidently enough does take on some of the characteristics of the Emerald Rain songs.
Vocalist Paul Uttley has a good voice and fits this material well, without any big variation to the tone of his voice, much like the style of Gary Hughes; and look how popular he is!
All in all, a strong album with only a few softer ballads.
This one is mainly mid and uptempo AOR and guitar driven melodic rock.
The band's strongest album to date, which means all fans of their earlier work should definitely be impressed with this.
They also have a chance to gather some new fans, with some very good AOR songs written and featured here.
Just check out the wonderful piano work in Sophia's Song.

Points Summary - The Bottom Line
Great production, good song running order and running time give this album a great start.
A solid performance and above all, the band's best songs so far give them a winning combination.
And yes, the artwork is excellent.
