Escape Music have issued Billy Liesegang's well respected solo release No Strings Attached after it had only a limited previous release in 1996.
The album is a varied and diverse affair, much like the recently released Ronnie LeTekro solo album - also on Escape.
But on the whole, the 16 tracks are generally more straight ahead than LeTekro. The album is half instrumental, half vocal, which at 16 tracks, means there is plenty of both on offer. A generally well rounded release.
Of added bonus to melodic rock fans is the appearance of the great Glenn Hughes on 3 tracks and John Wetton on 2 tracks. Tony Thurlow appears on 2 other vocal tracks.
Hughes' tracks are fantastic. The uptempo rocker King Of The Western World will be familiar to many, while Crying For Love is a sultry Whitesnake style rock track.
Hughes also sings a monster ballad in The Night Will Soon Be Gone. Another album highlight.
Wetton's track Flesh And Blood is also a high quality uptempo melodic rock track. Be nice to hear him sing more tracks in this nature.
The instrumentals are also first rate. Liesegang is an accomplished guitarist that has appeared on a stack of albums including 101 South and Harlan Cage to name just two.
Billy mixes slow atmospheric tracks with uptempo shredders, offering a quality glimpse at his varied talents.
Worth mentioning is the overall excellent production quality of the album as a whole. Clearly recorded over different sessions with different musicians, the album gels together well thanks to a consistent sound and quality production.

The Bottom Line
For fans of guitarists in general, this album is a worthwhile purchase. The diverse style is held together with an excellent production and the guest vocalists provide an extra incentive. Fans of Glenn Hughes and John Wetton will find their contributions very enjoyable.
