Crown of Thorns vocalist and lead song writer Jean Beauvoir steps outside his normal role as band leader to record this new solo album - his first since the 80's. This however, isn't a regulation solo album - it is a collection of new songs and a few past classics all recorded and performed in a more stripped back acoustic style. It's not a totally stripped down affair, as there is a variety of additional instrumental backing on the tracks. The songs covered include a remake of his debut hit single Feel The Heat, alongside some of the better loved Crown Of Thorns songs like The Night, Lying To Myself and the soft ballad from the last CD Here She Comes. Also on offer is a cover of the 70's pop classic California Dreaming. Interesting choice for a cover, and not one of my favorite songs in the world, but is' done pretty cleanly here and certainly fits the vein of the rest of the album. The record is well produced as most things associated with Beauvoir are, plus is one of the better acoustic toned albums that have been released. The new tracks fit the format nicely. | |||
