Demon Drive's anticipated new album has been upon us, for a month or so now, released to mixed reviews and fan reaction. Why? Because the band have shifted their entire sound to fit the modern rock approach, with a harder edge more aggressive vocal, some additional production effects and a sound more inline with today's FM radio, rather then the classic European melodic rock the band and their members are famous for. Some of the songs on this album have a lot of style and indeed, some substance. Opening track The Other Side and Do Ya? would be quite at home on modern rock radio, while others like You're My Home have some good melodic qualities. The problem with the album is that there isn't much of the old to hang on to. Most would have bought the album blind, leaving them to love or loathe it. There isn't a halfway point with the style. If you don't like modern rock, then you won't like this. Simple. Musical endeavours and brave experiments aside, the version of Kiss' Sure Know Something is just plain awful...sorry guys...but it is. And why is it track 2? It should at least have been the last track on the album. Some listeners may not get past track 2 after hearing that. | |||
