Review
|
Cornerstone are back with album number two. The band – featuring singer Doogie White and Royal Hunt's Steen Mogensen created quite a buzz with their debut – a moody hard rock hybrid of Dare, Ten and Royal Hunt.
I am pleased to say that album number two is even better.
The band have moved away slightly from the moody AOR of the debut and closer to their own individual sound. Funnily enough, I think that sound is closer to Royal Hunt then before and closer also to Doogie's other passion – Rainbow.
Mix the two, add some of the debut's mood, rock it up a little more and you should have a good idea of how Human Stain sounds.
While the songs are just so good - more intricate, more involved.
This is a tougher, tighter, more cohesive set of songs that works very well as a body of work and as an album as a whole.
You wouldn't pick any hit singles of this, but you would highlight it as one of the better European melodic hard rock records of the year.
The strength of performance, commitment and execution of some very well written songs is extremely high.
Doogie sounds in great form vocally and the album features a very strong production.
Steen's bass work is the rhythm that holds the album together and the mix of guitar and keyboards/organ is perfect.
If dramatic, sometimes symphonic, sometimes moody, always powerful melodic hard rock does it for you, and you don't already own this album – then correct that oversight ASAP.

Points Summary - The Bottom Line
|
A great performance from the biys this time around. Production is tight and the song writing is some of the ebst of it's kind.
Artwork rocks, the running time is perfect and the sequencing also excellent. Not to many faults here!
