Chameleonation is one of those albums that is instantly going to appeal to fans of hard hitting, pumped up European melodic hard rock.
This is the band's 3rd album, this time produced by Europe's man of the moment Dennis Ward. Dennis is of course famous for his work with Pink Cream 69 and Angra and has a definite style as far as his production sound goes.
Chalice have picked up on that and this album has the same polished, uptempo, snappy hard rock feel of Pink Cream 69 and Pretty Maids.
What I like about this album is the quality of the songs. The production and sound is excellent, but the songs themselves are very melodic, featuring the authorative vocals of Gino Naschke and solid lead guitar work of Oliver Scheer. Keyboardist Burkhard Becker adds that extra melodic touch, with piano and keyboard passages lightening the hard rock sound up considerably in places.
The album also features strong harmony vocals throughout, another example of the solid production.
This hard rock album is very consistent, very melodic and quite powerful.

The Bottom Line
The style is very much European. The band's German roots are quite evident and their musical 'accent' is stronger than the less noticeable songs of Pink Cream 69 or Fair Warning for example.
For fans of that European melodic hard rock sound though – a worthy addition to your CD collection awaits.
Sundries: Ok artwork, but solid running time.
