Despite the placid facade of the cover and packaging of this album, Bradley is far from being another pleasant AOR singer/songwriter as one would hesitate to guess.
I suppose I should have checked the song titles - I Blame You, If I Were To Kill You and I Hate Love offer a better example of the tone of this album.
For the uninitiated, this is Brad L'Nart of Attraction doing his solo thing. BE WARNED - This is NOT anything like the happy go lucky glam rock of Attraction!
What we have in Bradley is an aggressive, toned down heavy, sometimes punk friendly, always hard hitting, slightly alternative, rock album. With, as a matter of fact, Brad playing most of the instruments and the legendary Jeff Canata helping out.
At times I thought I was listening to a more modern and aggressive version of The Cult.
Other times I heard Michael Monroe in his Jerusalem Slim and Demolition 23 punk friendly rocking ways.
To be honest, first listen to this album, I turned it off…I really hated it! But six or seven listens down the track and I have discovered that there are some great songs on here.
It just takes a few listens to get used to the sound, adjust and appreciate the raw and honest emotion of the songs on here. It is gut wrenching stuff at times and always dark and heavy.
The thing that strikes me about the album is it's emotional content. The guy is obviously pissed with someone and they get it all back on this album. The delivery of the songs is still the surprise element. It really is dark, heavy and on the alternative side of things.
I guess that makes Brad a pretty diverse character, as I would never had put this and Attraction in the same sentence, had I not been informed prior.
BOTTOM LINE: A solid album of emotional outpouring that takes a few spins to grasp and appreciate. It will however only really strike a chord with those that can appreciate music in the more modern rock vein, with some pretty dark and heavy moments. Lots of tuned down guitars and punk rock songs comprise the album.
If you like Michael Monroe or The Cult at their darkest best, check this out.
